This has got to be the laziest wallpaper I have ever done (including those of the deleted account).
The "thumbnails" come from *MegaSweet's collection of wallpapers.
The characters "Applejack", "Fluttershy", "Pinkie Pie", "Rainbow Dash", "Rarity", and "Twilight Sparkle" come from the show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic", created by *fyre-flye and owned by Hasbro.
I'd use the term minimal instead of lazy. The softness of the whole image is really easy on the eyes, and I enjoy how the colors are lightish but it's still not bright or in your face with color.
At last a nice criticism! For someone who is very meticulous in the visual elements of a wallpaper, those aspects are really one of the things I take care of. I don't just make wallpaper because I can.
For the lighting, you are quite correct. A wallpaper should not be too bright nor too dark for its theme. I've seen a lot of wallpapers that didn't happen to follow such "postulate."
Another aspect that I usually take care of is the size of the "element" as it shouldn't be too big but should be big enough for its theme. An enormous element, though is an emphasis, is very overwhelming.
Well, I just said "lazy" since it is the wallpaper that I have created the quickest, as compared to my previous wallpapers (and attempts). But the effort is not that related to the impact of the wallpaper itself. A lazy wallpaper may actually look good and a wallpaper done with much effort (may or may not be too much) may actually not look that good.
